Madeleine Duke is an Australian singer-songwriter who performs with an expressive vulnerability, always sincere but never too serious.
Using the template of folk, she fleshes out her songs into more complex landscapes, exploring big yet intimate themes, such as relationships and belonging — while always leaving a bit of room for whimsy.
Duke has shared the stage with the likes of Grace Cummings and Leah Senior and has lent her voice to various notable acts such as Courtney Barnett and The Finks.
After releasing her self-titled EP, she moved from Melbourne to Berlin, where she is now writing and recording a forthcoming album.
On Saturday, March 7th, Madeleine Duke is set to launch the last of her true folk singles, Horse of Whittled Wood, at Franks Wild Years.
The allegorical song explores the relationship between artist and muse, hero and fan, sympathising with each, while at the same time condemning both. The track marks an imminent departure from Duke's folk beginnings, as she takes her sound in a new direction. Joining her band is Berlin drummer and electronic artist, Mesut Gürsoy.
